40″ x 64″ – Charcoal and pastel on paper
The face of a nation. The symbol of democracy. The leader of the free world, clutching the fate of it in his hands. This piece was meant to be a mental exercise for me, to help me understand the man elected to the highest form of office in the United States. To portray him as a man, human, instead of the idea he has become – to some an idea of hope and to others of fear. After days of working on this piece, long nights alone staring at his face, he still remains equally perplexing to me. I don’t understand it and I don’t know I ever will.
